About DNS Speed Test – Benchmark & Find Your Fastest DNS

DNS speed test measures the round-trip latency of various public DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) resolvers directly from your browser and local internet connection.

Because DNS resolution happens before every web page request, switching to the fastest DNS resolver can noticeably decrease website loading latency and improve overall browsing responsiveness.

Key features

  • Real-Time Browser Testing Queries are sent directly from your device to measure actual latency from your physical location and ISP, not from a remote server.
  • Comprehensive Metrics Evaluates average response time, minimum latency, maximum latency, jitter (consistency), and query reliability rate across multiple test rounds.
  • Top Public DNS Providers Compares leading global resolvers including Cloudflare (1.1.1.1), Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8), Quad9 (9.9.9.9), AdGuard DNS, Control D, OpenDNS, and DNS.SB.
  • Customizable Test Suite Choose test round counts, select or deselect specific resolvers, add your own custom DoH endpoints, and filter by features like privacy, malware blocking, or ad blocking.
  • Actionable Setup Guide Instantly view the #1 winner with primary and secondary IPv4, IPv6 addresses, DoH endpoints, and step-by-step setup guides for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and routers.

How to Find Your Fastest DNS Resolver

Follow these steps to benchmark DNS resolvers and configure the fastest one on your device.

  1. Select DNS Resolvers Choose which DNS resolvers to benchmark from the preset list or filter by category such as Privacy, Security, or Ad Blocking.
  2. Configure Test Options Select the number of test rounds (3, 5, or 10 rounds) to ensure statistical accuracy across repeated queries.
  3. Start the Benchmark Click the "Start Test" button and watch real-time latency measurements, response meters, and live leaderboard rankings.
  4. Review Fastest Resolver Inspect the winner card highlighting the fastest DNS provider with the lowest latency and highest reliability.
  5. Apply to Your Device Copy the primary and secondary IP addresses of the winning resolver and follow the setup guide for your operating system or router.

Usage tips

  • Run the speed test when your internet connection is idle without active heavy downloads or streamings for the cleanest results.
  • Consider both latency and features: a resolver with 5ms higher ping but built-in malware or ad blocking may offer a better daily experience.
  • Configure both Primary and Secondary DNS addresses on your router or device so you have an automatic fallback if one address experiences downtime.
  • Test again if you switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data (4G/5G), as routing to DNS anycast nodes can vary significantly between networks.

Frequently asked questions

Before your browser can load any website (like google.com), it must query a DNS resolver to translate that domain into a numerical IP address. If your DNS resolver takes 150ms instead of 15ms, every single new website or web resource you load suffers a noticeable delay.
The tool sends real DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) requests to each public resolver directly from your browser. By timing how long each request takes to return a response from your location, it measures your real-world round-trip time without routing through our server.
Speed depends on the physical distance to the resolver's nearest Anycast server point of presence (PoP), your Internet Service Provider's (ISP) peering connections, and the DNS provider's server infrastructure load.
Yes. Click the "Add Custom DNS" button, enter your custom provider name and DoH URL (e.g., your personal NextDNS or AdGuard Home endpoint), and it will be tested alongside the public resolvers.
Yes. Traditional DNS queries over UDP port 53 are sent in plain text and can be intercepted, spoofed, or monitored by third parties. DNS-over-HTTPS encrypts your DNS traffic over TLS (port 443), preventing eavesdropping and DNS hijacking.
